Research shows that it takes 21 to 30 days to form a new habit. After that time it becomes a natural way to think or behave and you don’t need to consciously try any more. The trick is to get through those first 3 or 4 weeks!
During this time it helps to find a symbol for change - something that helps you focus on your intention for personal growth.
It might be a picture you look at each day or maybe a collage that includes aspects of how you want your life to be. It could be something as simple as a smooth white pebble that you touch each time you pass your hall table. Anything is okay as long as you make it a strong symbol of your desired future.
Put it somewhere you will see it on each day. Tell yourself ‘This stands for what I want to achieve in my life’. Be specific in defining what that is for you. Then, each time you pass by the symbol you have chosen, remind yourself of your goal and your belief that you have and are all you need to have and be to achieve that goal.
Let yourself feel it as a reality in your life. Then start behaving in ways that support your goal – become the change that you want to achieve. Step by step put in place the small changes that lead you towards being the person you want to be.
By changing your thinking, you can change your beliefs.
When you change your beliefs, you change your expectations.
When you change your expectations, you change your attitude.
When you change your attitude, you change your behaviour.
When you change your behaviour, you change your performance.
When you change your performance, you change your life!
