You may be wondering why there have been no blog entries for some time. I am in Australia for a couple of months as my Mum has had an accident. I am doing what I can to make things easier for her while she heals and for my Dad who has Parkinson’s. My sisters and nieces and nephews are also assisting as they can around their work schedules.
This is a case of putting your values into action. Family is always high on my list of priorities and I am seeing how everyone pulls together and pitches in during a crisis. And this is as it should be. Sometimes there is a cost to living out your values, and in this case it means I have less time available for writing my blog and some of my client appointments have been put on hold. However, this is a price I willingly pay to give back something to my parents who have done so much for me over the years.
I am finding that when under pressure of time it is good to assess what seems Urgent and what is really Important. It is easy to get lost in all the details and busyness and lose track of what really needs attending to. Taking time out to think about what is most Important gives a different perspective and allows you to make choices about how to spend your time and energy.
While under stress of any kind, and especially when being in a ‘helping’ role, it is important to care for ourselves. Think of what gives you energy and brings a feeling of peace, and make time in your schedule for a little ‘me time’. What are some of the ways can you care for yourself while you care for others?
